state of fear

THats michael chrighton's new book and its pretty cool.
its pretty much talking about how the world is controlled by fear as it relates to the whole "global warming problem".
State of fear is actually some theory talking bout how the media and other factors frightens us into thinking a certain way that will have us behaving a certain way that will have an effect about how we live our life.
this whole bird flu thing has a lot of ppl staying away from eating chicken cuz they dont want to get sick. yet i havent heard reports of ppl getting it from eating chicken. but its just so hyped up on the media. and its not only chicken , almost every food u eat sommeone is afraid to eat it cuz of something they hear. i've heard ackee helps to cause impotence. digestive cookies has something that will kill u.
many ppl still cant belive that aeroplanes is one of the safest way of traveling even with the 9/11 thing. i know ppl who r afraid of getting on a plane.
crime is bad, but society makes it sound like its on every street corner. how many times i'm walkin on an empty street with one other person and cant help to think " thats it, i'm dead now"
Kidnapping is on the news here everyday and it is very serious, but its unhealthy to begin to worry evry time a loved one is a bit late in coming home.
statistics keep showing murder rates climing higher an higher and we become more and more afraid, talking about times getting more serious. what about slavery days? the holocast? religois masacers? are we really less safe on the road now than back in the day?
where i do my course in Trinidad is an area known as Laventille. to many ppl in this country the word laventille is ascosiated with certain death and despair. - which is how it is portrayed in the media. NOt all parts of laventille are bad. i've been working there for almost a year and never been robbed, yet when i tell ppl where i work, they get frightned and cant belive i actually go there.
same thing in jamaica, plenty ppl will not go down town because of fear. as a result we miss out on certain cultural and heratige landmarks. All because of fear fuelled by ignorance.
THere are so many ways in which our lives are restricted due to fears, fears we dont even know we have. So my brother and sisters i ask u to journy with me on the path to eliminating fear from our lives. the way to do this is to free ourselves from ignorance. KNowlege is key.

That book is tuff don't? An eye-opener.

Well said. I felt as if I were reading Keiran's blog. You should link him. He's been preaching this exact point for a while now. It's sinking in.

FEAR!!! The great uniter and equally great divider. I try very hard to overcome my fears. I don't like being crippled by them. I hate needles so I started giving blood. Trust me there is no larger needle in civilised use.

Ihate enironments I can't control. Now I'm in medicine. All I control is my temper and my bowels.
